Roger Briers Race Series
The Roger Briers Race Series is organised by Stroud AC and comprises the Beer Race, Standish Woodland Chase and Woodchester Park.
They are very well organised, good communication prior to the race, smooth parking and registration, and the courses are well sign posted and marshalled. Also, plenty of loos!
Stroud Beer Race is a 7.2mile, 3-lap road race from the Old Lodge on Minchinhampton Common around to Amberley and Beaudesert. You can read Sophie Berry’s report on the race. I enjoyed this one the least, not a big fan of doing laps! The bonus with this race was a token at the end for beer from Stroud Brewery.
The second race was Standish Woodland Chase. This starts in Horsemarling Lane in Stonehouse with a ridiculous climb up to Standish Woods. It’s then two laps through the woods and a lovely long downhill run back to the finish. What goes up, must come down! This is the longest run of the series with a mix of road and trails, and is just over 9 miles.

Woodchester Park, is 7.5mile trail run, very undulating with a couple of short steep hills. For me, this was the most enjoyable run of the series, even with the uphill finish!
And of course, a race series isn’t complete without the obligatory bling….makes it all worthwhile. I’d definitely recommend this series of races.
