Sunday 9 December – Wotton
Report by Sophie Berry
At school I used to take part in cross country and still remember that during the last race I did at Westonbirt school I’d actually given up, dropped out and it had really knocked my running confidence. When Trudy and Aimee mentioned the adult league I thought I’d give it another go and hoped that with the support of the club I’d manage to finish this time.
The cross country race on the 9th December was the third in the series and was at KLB school in Wotton. Aimee, Nikki, Liz, Kim and I were running with some great support around the course from Bea and Danny. Although relatively dry for the ladies race it had been raining in the run up and so plenty of mud was on hand. The course was hilly in parts but nothing compared to some of our horror club runs! I always find it’s the hills where as an Allrunner I really excel, picking off the runners from Gloucester and other flat places. It was a few loops around very muddy fields with parts where you wound back on yourself, great for supporting our fellow runners with a quick shout and wave! Although the whole course was muddy there really must be a mention of the ditch and stream which we had to jump over, nothing like a good cross country obstacle. A really tough race but the team did amazingly. By the time the final race comes round in February I’ll hopefully have my full cross country confidence back.
Saturday 13 October – Old Down Country Park
Report by Nikki Fowles
It was the first cross country race of the season on Saturday 13th October at Old Down Country Park and it was a great first race. We had an incredible 14 juniors racing on what was, to say the least, a very blustery day. Blustery being an understatement – there was no way the gazebo was going up!
Every one of our juniors made me incredibly proud with their talent, determination and fantastic club spirit. The distances varied from 2-5km depending on the age category on a course with everything, from flat, downhill and a long, steady climb back through some woods. No mud on this race though!
Everybody finished their race with determination and some even with a smile on their face! A special mention to Sam who finished in an incredible 1st place in the U11 boys race and Charlie on a fantastic 2nd place in the U13 boys race.
We were lucky to have enough runners to make up teams in the U11 & U13 boys races and after the first race they currently rank 7th & 12th out of 13 in the U11s and 7th out of 15 in the U13s.
A huge well done to each and every one of our junior runners.
